Depth of field is the maximum distance between your focal plane and the closest object that you can focus on. So, imagine a camera setup with three lenses: one for focusing (focal range), another for capturing (focal length), and a third for capture assist. Focus on something far away, like the top of a skyscraper. Close in toward the building to make sure you focus where you want to capture.
