Aperture is the denominator of the pupil\/focal length ratio. In photography, this means that the larger aperture, the greater depth of field in a given scene. By changing the size of your f-stop (or diaphragm aperture), you can control how wide or far your focus areas are. Smaller apertures mean wider depth of field but also lower resolution based on diffraction and lens design. So when you switch to a higher-resolution camera like APS format or 35mm full frame, use a wider f\/2.8 or f\/4 than when shooting with standard usage cameras (e.g. 18 MP digicam).
